Onyx Community Outreach
Onyx is committed to the Greater Philadelphia community, the success of Penn minority groups, and academic prowess on campus
Diaspora Community Garden at Bartram's
Starting in 2014 Onyx began a partnership with Bartram's Garden in West Philadelphia. Members do regular outings to plot and maintain a community "Diaspora Garden" which features plants that bear significance to members of the African Diaspora. With the help of the knowledgable and ever helpful folks at Bartram's our plot has been coming along very nicely. On September 9th, Councilwoman Janice Blackwell and a group of Philadelphia students toured the garden and were quite impressed by our progress!
Philly High School Fair
Onyx volunteers at the Philadelphia High School Fair. This fair gives 7th & 8th grade students in the Greater Philadelphia the opportunity to learn about over 100 high school options in Philadelphia, connect with representatives to discuss admissions requirements, extracurricular activities, academics, and more.
Freshman Honor Roll
Each semester Onyx honors freshmen who have excelled academically in order to empower our younger brothers and sisters at Penn. Academic excellence is a criteria for all Onyx members and so we like to recognize and cultivate that value in the freshman class.
